I installed Gentoo yesterday and I must say I had the best experience since I
installed my very first Slackware about 10 years ago.

What an amazingly cool distribution and what a great job you guys have done :)

The Live CD rocks, installation is like "You get to do it yourself but we give
you all the tools you need so it doesn't get boring or annoying". After a few
hours my system was up and running, just following the instructions on
/install.txt - this is not for newbies but wow is it good if you know what
you're doing.

You manage to keep everything nice and simple as well, so you don't need an
SQL server for your init scripts etc. (Ok that's an exaggeration :-)

I will definitely try to help with this great project.

Thanks for an amazing piece of software!

// Thomas

More or less the same feeling we all have. Gentoo is simply the best distro
I've tried (Debian, RH.) It breaks sometimes with ~x86, but I can rollback
very easy. I know exactly where the different config files are, etc., etc...

Gentoo is so good that I have deleted Windows from all my systems except one
(because of my modem.) But when I get ADSL or cablemodem, I'll delete Windows
from that box too :-D

Best regards,
Norberto

I fully agree. Had the same feelings as you when I first tried Gentoo. And I tried almost every major Linux distro before (Progeny Debian, Mandrake, RedHat, SuSE [eek!]) but always felt back to Windows :/

When I first installed, I was positive suprised that I can start off such a minimal system and install only the tools I really want (_one_ texteditor, _one_ windowmanager etc.).

Gentoo includes is the perfect mix of easy software installation, clean system structure, geek-factor (self compiled software) and speed (see geek-factor) :)

Keep up the great work!

Sven
