hmmm is /afs a directory ?!? and rereading the install guide .. i think you
should do
start the afs client before doing step 23 and 24. (look into the initscript
/etc/init.d/afs
to see what you need to customize)
btw .. it's a good idea to have ibm's afs doku .. (very very big !!)
it's in /usr/portage/app-doc/afsdoc
