Do we have software or hardware support by default in rc5 ? any hints or guidelines ? has anybody tried that yet in gentoo ?

We have software RAID (md) support compiled-in to the bootCD, and it should
work although I haven't tested it.

Yes as Drobbins wrote, it supports software raid and it works, atleast it did for me. For help I guess
you should take a look at the Raid HOWTO that can be found on http://www.linuxdoc.org/
