The link to the 1024x768 is wrong.
Actual link:

/gentoo1024x768.pjg
As you can see the image name is wrong. The correct link is of course:
http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo/images/backgrounds
/gentoo1024x768.jpg
:-) Great distribution (I think it's the best at this moment)
