hello,

I hope I am at the right place.

since quite some time I am using prism (http://wiki.mozilla.org/Prism)
in particular gmail through it.

two days ago I made an ebuild mozilla-prism-bin and I am thinking to
file a bug with it. yesterday I found out that there are already
ubuntu/debian packages for prism. they also included a couple of
webapps for prism, see also http://packages.ubuntu.com/prism.

now I wonder if there is a interest from the gentoo side to have
something similiar, like an ebuild for each of the following webapps.
they are all part of the mozilla prism project and with the help of
the debian packages the desktop configuration should be fairly easy.
# facebook.webapp
# ganalytics.webapp
# gcalendar.webapp
# gdocs.webapp
# gmail.webapp
# greader.webapp
# groups.webapp
# gtalk.webapp
# twitter.webapp

in case there is interest I would like to setup these ebuilds and file
them to bugs.gentoo.org

what you think ?

Sounds neat. You could also create an overlay with all these packages
and publish it somewhere, with instructions on adding it via layman, so
people could try your ebuilds more easily.

At some point, a source-based prism ebuild will clearly be desired as
well.

Thanks,
Donnie

Another note -- I haven't looked at the debian packaging for this, but
it seems like the kind of thing that could be ripe for an eclass or
maybe even a script to autogenerate ebuilds on the fly, a la
app-portage/g-cpan.

Donnie

OK, let me first setup an overlay and make one or two of these
application manually, than I can see how to automate the process
debian-prism-application to ebuild.

agreed. right now only a subversion snapshot is possible. I would
rather wait until prism tags at least their releases in its
subversion.

hello,

I did setup an overlay with the prism ebuilds. I can clearly see the
need of an eclass to share most of the ebuilds functions. it seems to
be easy to generate the ebuilds from the debian packages.

there was a debian.eclass (for unpacking debian packages) in portage
before, but I can not find it anymore. what is the right way of
unpacking debian packages ?

so, the generator, the eclass and some more webapps are coming soon.

regards
Kristian

Debian isn't upstream for these packages, is it? If not, I don't see the
reason to unpack them in an ebuild. You can access their patch to the
base package in a diff.gz file or something like that.

Thanks,
Donnie
