Hi all.
Since about one month and a half i am maintaining the GParted livecd
which is based on gentoo-catalyst.
Till snapshot 20070129 i got no special problem. But since snapshot
20070203 (and later), there is something weird that happens with
mkxf86config :
I keep only vesa as video driver. Till snapshot 20070129, mkxf86
generated a xorg file that tried to load vesa for all kind of video card.
But since snapshot 20070203, it is like this : ati asks for ati, radeon
for radeon, vmware for vmware .....
SO X failed to load, of course. I have to add in overlay the missing
drivers...

So i wonder why mkxf86 changed ( it is the same version btw !). I didnt
make any changes but the snapshot !
If needed, you may have a look at svn :
http://gparted.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/gparted/livecd/trunk/

thx for any advise :)

Larry

It didn't. Something else in the tree changed that caused it. Have you
looked into pciutils to see if this is the change that caused it?
Without being able to see every package that changed between those dates
and why, there's not really much that we can do. I can tell you the
packages involved in mkxf86config's detection, and that's about it.

pciutils
libkudzu
hwsetup
mkxf86config

I must say something really weird to me :
Because of a shutdown problem i had to come back to baselayout 1.12.6
and mask 1.12.9
Then i have just discover that the video problem is gone away !!!
I mean that if the video card is unkown by the system (like with
Vitrtualbox), the driver is *automaticaly* set to vesa, like it was before !
Baselayout is the *only* change i made !

Yes, i *must* say that (*in my case*) with baselayout 1.12.6, all video
drivers are overwritten by vesa driver.
It does exaclty what i wish, but it doesnt happen anymore with
baselayout 1.12.9 (which makes problem when shuting donw, but bug has
been reported).
