Yeah, that's one thing, I was expecting to hear. I already tried that and
failed. That's why I was so happy, when I got my livecd-stage1 working
with the 2008.0 stage3 snapshot as the source. 
I already thought about using genkernel completely without e2fs,
since I'm not sure, why ext2 is needed anyway.
