Hi guys!
I am a Gentoo user since 2 years; for a meeting about GIS and OSS, i need to
build a Live Distro to show some software.
My colleagues told me to use knoppix and related distro, but i'd like to
create with Gentoo. This distro should:
Use KDE and use some softwares that is not in portage.
Do you think that catalyst is the right chose for me?
Thx for your support
Luca Casagrande

No. *Unless* you plan on writing ebuilds for everything that isn't in
portage and you're willing to write up your own fsscript for hacking up
the KDE stuff, since catalyst (at present) only has proper support for
using gdm as a display manager. Of course, you could use gdm with KDE,
but that would be kinda scary. ;]

Yes, but you'll have to unmask it in your snapshot.

Sure. You'll just have to do it in your fsscript. However, *how* to do it is up
to you to figure out.

Actually, I use "gdm" as my login manager of choice for all desktops,
including KDE, and XFCE4. In fact, I have systems with only gdm and
xfce4 loaded -- the non-required chunks of gnome and KDE aren't even
installed. First of all, I love the cool "emergence" theme. Second,
"kdm" won't let me log in as "root" and "entrance" won't even let me
pick a session type if I have more than one desktop/window manager
installed. And third, "xdm" is just plain ugly!!!!!!

It's not exactly smart to login directly as root, and entrance is still under
development.

I have started reading the doc on GENTOO forum and here:
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_build_a_LiveCD#source_subpath:_stage3-x86-2004.3
For testing purpose I'd like to use the 2006 spec adding some package..
where can i get it?
Other thing: how I tell catalyst wich package I wanna install?
Thx

You cannot add packages to the 2006.0 spec file. It fills an entire CD.

Well, you're seriously going to need to read the example files that come
with catalyst before asking any more questions, as you're definitely
getting into the territory where things are already answered for you.

Ok, after some reading, i build my first live with catalyst...The problem is
with xorg.conf:
as for livecd2006, I added autoconf to default runlevel and it recognize sound
card, video card and change the xorg.conf
The problem is that mouse (tested both with ps2 and usb) is recognized as
"unknown" on /dev/input/mice but in X doesn't work.
The live cd 2006 on the same machine, recognize the mouse as
"belkin" /dev/input/mice and works fine...
Thanks.
