hello,
thanks for help in advance. Just as things seemed to be going my way I
ran into a roadblock. I currently get this:
>>> emerge (366 of 431) net-www/mod_ssl-2.8.21 to /

When it crashes i've tried to chroot into the half built stage and
emerge -p all of that and i also built a script to do each one sepeartly
and list all the ones with the problematic package (i built it to get
rid of xorg from compiling) But! Nothing seemed to require mod_ssl but
it is being compiled... WHY? and how cna i fix it so it can compile if
for some reason something requires it (and or tell me whats requiring it
so i can remove it)

use flags mean "use/don't use this feature". It has nothing to do with
dependencies, and I think that ssh (quite mandatory) depends on it.

I'm pretty sure he understands this. You're confusing SSH with SSL.
Something is pulling mod_ssl in even though he has -ssl in his USE flags.
Have you updated your snapshot recently? Perhaps something's gone askew.
When I have -ssl in my USE flags Apache (2.0) respects it.
-Nathan.

I did when i began work on this release of my livecd, if this compile
does not finish successfully (i've actually jammed apache 1 in there and
forced it to use that vs apache2) i'll update the tarball although not
that old this could be the problem. Thanks!
