[gentoo-amd64] Flash 9?

Has anyone had luck with this in mozilla-firefox-bin??  I use gnash right
now, since it compiles for 64 bit, it works but not for stuff like flash 8+
sites.  Just want to know what the amd64 community does for flash.

Flash 9 works fine on my system with 32bit firefox except that for some reason it doesn't play well with other apps that use sound. All other apps share the sound fine with each other but flash prevents them from using sound properly and, on occaision, vice-versa. Everytime I goto a site that uses sound in flash, I am forced to close my browser, reload alsa, and restart the browser (careful not to restore a session to the same site or this has to be repeated).

Aside from this fact, most sites except myspace media players seem to work flawlessly. I suspect that the problem with the msyspace players has to do with whoever developed them rather than the linux flash9 port itself but I do not know for sure.

I don't know about the community, but I use mozilla-firefox-2.0.0.1 +
libflashplayer + nspluginwrapper-0.9.91.2, and that combination works
fine for my own needs.

gnash works sort-of, but not so well as the combination I just
mentioned.

Hmm I will give it a try tonight, hopefully i can figure out an install
package, i'm too used to just emerge'n things.  Will i need to copy any
files to the firefox directory?  Kinda like when you install flash the howto
describes copying lib.so files from the shockwave to firefox.

What I did was chase the plugin information down from firefox links, and
ended up here

Now, it says this will download flashplayer-7.  It really downloads -9,
but that is OK:  that's the one you want, anyway.  Then, you can either
run the installer, or just put the libflashplayer.[so,xpt] into
~/.mozilla/plugins/ directory and (after emerging it), run
nspluginwrapper -i ~/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so

I just did exactly that (download, unpack, stop firefox, mv ....,
nspluginwrapper..., restart firefox on a known flash-dependent site) as
a check, and it worked as expected.

(For this to work, note that you will need a fair number of the
app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-xxx packages if you don't already have
them, but they are all quick binary installs.  Why?  Because
libflashplayer.so is: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version
1 (SYSV), stripped and it uses things like:
libX11.so.6 => /emul/linux/x86/usr/lib/libX11.so.6)

I unmasked and emerged the flashplayer and nspluginwrapper.

After nspluginwrapper is installed, you just have to execute: 
"nspluginwrapper -v -a -i" and fire up your 64-bit browser. It is

I don't believe so, because i don't believe there is a konqueror-bin
for 1, and 2 the biggest problem 64-bit users have is there is no
64-bit flash YET!  The firefox-bin we can get flash in by copying over
some files, like said above, but konqueror, prob nei. Though I think i
just answered your question with another question lol......

There's a way to make 32-bit plugins work on native 64-bit konqueror, but
AFAIK it requires a bit of software not available from portage.  Look in
the forums if interested.  Since I consider binary-only programs to be
slaveryware and won't install it, and if there's source available, it has
generally been ported to 64-bit for some time already, I've not had a need
for that sort of thing personally and haven't investigated further.

Thanks for the correction/added-detail.  As I said, it hadn't affected me,
but I knew it was possible.  I just thought one had to use the thing on
the forums, but I guess that must be outdated.

Please, how did you set that right path?
I've read that I should go to Settings -> Configure Konqueror -> 
Plugins, but I can't see any Plugins options (there are: Behavior, 
Appearance, Preview & Meta-Data, File Associations, Web Behavior, 
Java & Javascript, AdBlock Filters, Fonts, Web Shortcuts, History 
Sidebar, Cookies, Cache, Proxy, Stylesheets, Crypto, Browser 
Identification, Performance).

I think by that he means, the path of konqueror in your system.  I
think the nspluginwrapper installs it for all apps on your system,
correct me if i am wrong lol, but for fox i just extracted the flash
download to my desktop, did a nspluginwrapper -v -a -i, then i went
into the folder i extracted and did a nspluginwrapper -i
libflashplayer.so  and thats how it works for me lol.  so if that
doesnt get you the flash for konq then hit the forums.  gl

I don't know, but I just have a plugins settings config section, between 
Browser Identification and Performance.
I have kde-base/konq-plugins installed, maybe that gives the config option?

Hmm... I used to have that config option, but now running KDE 3.5.6 I
don't seem to, so I lost it somewhere (I have konq-plugins-3.5.6-r1
merged). I won't run flash as it's not freedomware, but I did install
gnash, tho I've not had much luck with it.  Konqueror sees it apparently,
but just blank-pages it on load. I've not tried enough to see if it's just
that gnash doesn't handle some of them or if it's not working for me at
all, however.

I /can/ verify that the kmplayer plugin works just fine for files it
handles, embedding mplayer.

Do note that there's a HTML-settings helper tool that allows one to turn
on and off plugins/java/scripting/cookies etc temporarily, for a single
site.  However I got it, I have plugins turned off by default (the way I
want it so definitely not arguing with it), but can turn them on with the
HTML-settings tool if desired.  The first few times I tried sites needing
plugins, I forgot about that setting and thought it was a problem with
konqueror.  However, toggling plugins on in the HTML-settings allowed
kmplayer at least to work just fine as a plugin, and gnash to try to load,
but as I said it didn't work, at least on the files on the site I was
trying it on.

Hmm, I have kde-base/konq-plugins (as I said) but not kde-base/nsplugins.
I bet that's the one that includes the plugins settings dialog!
