I think you should try google before posting to this news group. Maybe even
the manuf. website. Why don't you try using Knoppix? This isn't a linux
newbie newsgroup.

Sounds curious, as far as I know 8042 errors seem to be caused by bad
keyboard controllers. Have you tried a couple of Linux Distros? If it
happens in a couple different distros, I would guess this is a hardware
problem as that MB has been reported to work.

Off the top of my head, official support for AMD K8 in 64bit mode exists in
Fedora Core 4, Suse, and Mandriva. Other distros have ports that are not
officially support by the distro, ie Debian's 64bit port.

... "This isn't a linux newbie newsgroup... says a top poster posting in
HTML, no less. Soot-stained and blackened pot, meet kettle, who's
DEFINITELY cleaner than you are, as at least he didn't post in HTML!

Googling is indeed a good suggestion, but the question was certainly on
topic and legit for the list/group, and you are certainly top posting and
posting in HTML, both marks of "newbies", and generally considered
somewhat offensive behavior on many/most Linux related lists and groups,
so where do you get off calling HIM a newbie?

(Note that if you choose to post in HTML or top post, IMO you have every
right to do so and I'll defend that right, but that doesn't change the
fact that doing so is considered offensive behavior worthy of kill
filing, a right I'll also defend, and occasionally practice myself, by
many regulars on many Linux related lists/groups, including this one. In
any case, calling someone a newbie for posting an on topic and legitimate
post, while top posting in HTML no less, looks just foolish, and isn't
likely to win you much respect on EITHER side of the argument!)

Apologies if this came off harshly, but it's no harsher than unfounded
accusations calling someone a newbie for an on topic and polite question,
who /at/ /least/ knows enough to post in plain text, not HTML.

I didn't realize the listserve wasn't stripping the HTML, you have a
good point there about my posting in HTML though! My original point
was that searching either the manufacturer's website, or google for
information about Linux compatibility would have answered his
question. It appeared that he asked out of laziness, "Oh, Instead of
searching, why not just ask a news group?" Using google first is just
something I always assumed people did before posting to a newsgroup.
I wasn't thinking he might not have access to the web to do it
(although acquiring multiple distros without the web is curious!). I
will try to not jump to conclusions like I did.

Thanks for taking that as intended, even if it /was/ a bit harsh. You
just hit a nerve, is all. =8^)

Today at forums.gentoo.org my friend found messages about same
problem.. people from that forum says that parameter "acpi=ht" must be
passed to kernel at boot time... i'll try it tomorrow
