Hi all,
I have a divx video file but can't seem to get it to run, the players
state :-
The content of this media file is blocked. It seems like you are not using
the right media player to play this file.
You should visit http://divxmovienow.com.
Does this mean that gentoo has no player that can run divx files?
Thanks for any help
Paul

I run divx videos all the time, even encode them in gentoo. I don't
think that's the problem. Is it possibly a DRM issue with this
particular video?

i think that this file is viable only with mediaplayer, because of the drm
bunch of sh** included in it.

xvid (IIRC) is the open source DIVX implementation inside an AVI
wrapper. You should be able to play that video without any trouble,
except for the DRM stuff that seems to be requiring you to download a
specific movie player (presumably loaded up with such fantastic features
as spyware and viruses). I've seen this before and I suggest you just
delete that file and find one NOT DRM enabled as this one is.

it seems that i've been beaten by mark on the drm issue. anyway, with the
right codec, ie:
- x264
- libvorbis
- libtheora
- win32codecs
- ffmpeg
- xine-lib
- kaffeine
you'll be able to play all the files that aren't drm protected. here are the
use flags that i use and they work, usually. i use paludis and i've
generated the package description with it. what the lines mean are:
* name of the package
overlay from which i've picked it (first is gentoo then the other
overlays)
installed shows the version istalled
Description: descripts the package
Homepage: tells the website of the project
Relevant use flags: (aaaaaaaa) (-bbbbb) mean that aaaaa is enabled while
bbbbb is disabled
source repository tells what overlay have i picked the installed version
installed time; installed using; license are aditional informations on the
packages.
anyway just pick these packages, even from gentoo main repository, use my
use flags, install them in the order upside, and then if the video isn't drm
protected then it will work.
