That's where I was getting > confused. :) No, I'm moving files on the desktop. Desktop is a directory and the files are visible in a terminal if I cd to Desktop. I can create a folder and 'mv' the files to that folder and 'mv' them back to the desktop. They'll get to it if it's important. This issue seems to come up occasionally. I'll download some zip file to my desktop and use an archive manager to drag a bunch of stuff out. Having done that I might delete some audio files but want to keep others, or I might want to separate them into different folders based on what I'm going to do with them. Anyway, we've wasted too much effort on this. It's just a minor annoyance. Thanks, Mark
