I'm curious whether anyone can get these jigsaw puzzles working in
Firefox under 64-bit Gentoo.

http://www.jigzone.com

I've got nsplugin support built where I can but the sun-jre-bin
doesn't seem to support the flag so I think that's what's causing
these puzzles to not play.

Does anyone have a solution other than using firefox-bin?

Thanks,
Mark

seamonkey-bin? <ducking>

But seriously, that's what I've done. I have a few things that depend on
the compiled 64-bit Firefox, so I let that get emerged (with the
iceweasel branding, btw), but I use seamonkey-bin as my primary browser.

Yeah, I have too. But then what I run into is a few web sites that
require both flash and java and I can only make one work at a time it
seems.

konqueror and nautilus should be able to read the 64bit sun-jdk or sun-jre
natively. for flash to work gnash or try out nsplugin-wrapper with the
official adobe flash player.

There's still not 64-Bit Java Plug-in, i think.
So if konqueror or nautilus don't have there own plugin implementation
(i don't think so) then it won't run either.

I think, you need to install a 32-Bit Java VM and a 32-Bit Browser.

Or does nspluginwrapper also work the Java plugin?
Then you could use a 64-Bit FireFox together with a 32-Bit Java VM.

i've heard that the openjdk project (the opensource java, based on the
source code realeased by sun) has created a 64bit plugin named iced tea that
is able to run almost any java applet around. i've still got to test it
myselft but it should work. the only problem is that you'll have to find an
overlay that has the openjdk and icedtea packages since it is still not
included into main portage tree.

Beso,
Will do. Only thing of any use I've found so far is this promising link:

http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-615533.html

I plan to try it this afternoon after the markets close. Currently I'm
in windows trying to make some money.

Cheers,
Mark

AFAIK, konqueror uses the "java" executable that is available on the
system, and doesn't need a special java plugin.

Have you tried it on the page I listed in the original post? Does it
work on a 64-bit system?

Yeah, running two or three of them seems to work for me (TM). I have

$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_06"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_06-b02)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 10.0-b22, mixed mode)
$ file /opt/sun-jdk-1.6.0.06/bin/java
/opt/sun-jdk-1.6.0.06/bin/java: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64,
version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.4.0, dynamically linked (uses shared
libs), not stripped

i can confirm that konqueror reads the java executable installed as does
openoffice. the problem is that konqueror is not fully compatible with all
the sites around the net: there are still a great deal of devs that continue
to ignore acid standards and still do stupid things compatible with only
iexploder or firefox. and the bad thing is that these ugly devs just disable
some advanced stuff if it the browser detected is not firefox or iexploder
(as gmail and this drives me a little mad).
