As for spreading from 2 to 6 channels if the 6 channels are visible in Jack then you could easily do this graphically with QJackCtl or even do the Jack connections in a script if you were interested. The issue would be whether your audio apps support Jack and how well they support Jack. The downside would be that it would likely end up being an app by app solution which wouldn't be fun.
