[gentoo-amd64] multilib question

Hi,

I just recognized, that the ATI Catalyst Control Center didn't work on
my laptop. I solved this by emerging emul-linux-x86-compat. Because I
didn't find such a bug at bugs.gentoo.org, I filed it.

I received a message, saying that my bug is a dup (which is right, I
just didn't find the other one), and that the original one is resolved.

So I looked into
/usr/portage/x11-drivers/ati-drivers/ati-drivers-8.37.6-r1.ebuild, and
theres a line in the RDEPEND section, saying

amd64? ( multilib? ( app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-compat ) )

OK, I should have had a look at that before I filed the bug, but why
doesn't ati-drivers pull in emul-linux-x86-compat on my system then? If
I emerge e.g. gcc, there is (-multilib) in the useflags.

I am using the standard 2007.0 profile, not no-multilib.

Sorry for double-posting, but it seems, I am not fast enough for
gentoo's bugzilla ;-)

The bug just got reopened, so it is most likely fixed there.

try always using the new ati-drivers, even if they're on the unstable
branch, cause they always bugfix something....
also add the gentopia/sabayon repository from layman and use the drivers
there, cause they're stabler and they're always quite updated.... and if
they're not very updated as they are on the official branch you'll
automatically upgrade to the most updated.... with the new ati monthly
driver update (mainly bugfixes, but also new features) you need these
drivers to be always upgraded.... also, you shouldn't need the compat 32bit
libraries.... the dependancie you need is libstdc++ of at least version 3,
so check if you installed it (you shouldn't have installed it as it is a run
dep and for some reason portage doesn't install it sometimes with 8.37 and
lesser packages).... after that you should be able to tun your ati system
quite good, with only the ati related bugs.... also remember to add
atieventsd daemon to boot level, disable composite extension and aiglx
server extension (currently non supported by the drivers) and make sure that
xorg loads the fglrx module.... after that you should do a revdep-rebuild
(install gentoolkit if you cannot find the command) as you'll need to do
after a major system package update (gcc, libtool, glibc, baselayout, xorg,
kdebase-libs) and package cleanings to make sure there aren't broken links
and deps....
for updated news on ati and linux drivers and hw be sure to check phonorix
web site and michael larabel's blog.... i'm sure that there you'll find a
lot of infos on linux hw/drivers....
