Hi
I have to start eth0 manually with 'dhcpcd eth0 start' to start networking.
I do not see starting local...            {ok}
if I rc-update add local default. I am told it is already there, skipping.
When I boot I see a long list of services not started. These present
themselves as eg
'usage:  sshd {start | stop |restart |pause |zap}
Error: not enough args'
This is the same for dhcp, eth0, local, rmnologin, spamd, xdm. Although
I have tried to unmerge xdm as it doesn't work, but I am told it is not
there, xdm starts if you type 'xdm', it won't allow you to login
though. It is NOT in any runlevels.

You probably need to add the net service to your runlevel

For eth0:
"rc-update add net.eth0 default"

For localhost:
"rc-update add net.lo boot"

And btw. You might want to change your username in your email client. It now
looks like you are some kind of nigerian trying to rid me of my money.

I had noticed that too, but wasn't going to say anything, because he seems
nice enough, and one can't be blamed for their name (altho on the net,
"'handles" are as common as names, and handles are chosen).

It is more the uppercase character of it. And the title (although I'm
certain he earned it).

Hi, I never gave my name and title much thought. I setup this email
add. on a windows-box (argh) whilst setting Gentoo up on my
workstation. This is my work email account so stuff for work is dealt
with here. I should have a signature but I couldn't be bothered writing
one for this PC (grrr). I will change it , how about 'Camellion'. My
other will be up soon. Btw the comment about the nigerion , I found
extremely funny.

Glad you found it funny, as I can imagine some would be offended! I'm not
exactly sure how I might take it, altho since I recognize Paul as a "good
guy" on the group/list, I hope I'd be OK with it, coming from him.

He's absolutely right, tho. The first time I looked at the name, I
thought for sure we had a spammer on the list! Luckily I decided to check
the message and see for sure!
