[gentoo-amd64] VNC

Hi All

What are you using for VNC or remote terminal access? Neither RealVNC 
nor tightVNC compile for me on gentoo-amd64.

Any ideas?

I have net-misc/vnc-4.0-r1 (aka realvnc), with the server enabled. I'm 
using ~amd64

That's interesting - how did you enable the server? I just never got a 
vncserver binary.

Add
net-misc/vnc server
to your /etc/portage/package.use

It is going to be a long and huge compile though as it uses XFree sources 
to compile

You could also possibly use the binaries on the realvnc website

I used the messy procedure of building a freenx server on x86, packaging
it, and installing on amd64 from the resulting package.  I probably have a
bunch of 32-bit libs in the wrong place as a result, but they shouldn't
conflict with anything that is 64-bit, and as soon as the package installs
cleanly on amd64 I'll switch to 64-bit.

I believe I've gotten tightvnc to actually work on amd64, but I can't say
what version I'm running until I get home in a few days...

Except that it doesn't work on amd64.  I set out to make it work at one
point, and made thousands of changes just to make it 64-bit clean, and
it still didn't work.

At least as client it works great here, can't say about the server part, as I 
use vino for that.

I'm using realvnc fine.  It's tightvnc that broke.

It works perfectly on amd64 I don't know what system setup you had but I
have no issues. x11vnc also works great for attaching for existing X
sessions.

I tried it some time ago - it did not work well for some reason, I already
forgot why.  Or perhaps it was vnc.o X module which tightvnc did not provide ?
realvnc is server and client as well.  And yes, tightvnc have more features,
but they are minor for me. Perhaps sometime I'll try tightvnc again.

So is for me. All parts of realvnc are working (although there is one glitch,
sometimes input gets slow or repeats itself, at least when I'm using X11
module). The quys you quote were talking about tightvnc.
