Hi,
   On the following link

http://news.yahoo.com/fc/world/hurricanes_and_tropical_storms

Just below the main story on the upper right there is a link for some
video. I am unable to play this video so far on my AMD64 machine. I
haven't got access immediately to try one of my 32-bit machines to
compare.

   Does this work for anyone else? If so how did you manage to do it?
I've emerged firefox-bin, realplayer 10.5, mplayer and lots of Java
stuff. When I trace out the links it says it needs Realplayer Ver. 7.

   I know in the past there have been many issues with Yahoo not
accepting Linux. Is that the root cause here?

I can't speak to specific links, however, I have it working.

AMD64 firefox-bin, realplayer 10.5

I am able to play the videos from 'audio/video' in the bar across
the top, and the ones mentioned at the bottom of the right hand
column under Video.

I am unable to play the video via the link

    Local video from WWL-TV

At first nothing worked.  I ran realplay standalone and accepted
the license.  After that the embedded browser stuff starting working,
but others have reported that step is not necessary.

If I run firefox-bin from a window I get lots of output from the
invoked realplay session which helps.

I also have 

/opt/firefox/components/nphelix.xpt
and
/opt/firefox/plugins/nphelix.so

I recall having to put them there myself.

You can use a 32 bit chroot jail or the instructions to build a 32 bit
mplayer here:  http://sh.nu/download/ebuilds/mplayer/ .  Basically you
need to use win32codecs and they are only 32 bits so must be linked
against a 32 bit binary.

Or you can just use mplayer-bin, which is already 32-bit and in portage.

[gentoo-amd64] First Linux install ever

Hey folks!

I recently upgraded to my first 64 bit processor, and even found myself 
with a copy of the 64 bit winxp, but I've been looking for an excuse to 
de-window myself for some time and this seemed perfect.  The last 
command line interface I used was dos 5.0, so its been fun trying to get 
around, but I need help.

I'm currently running 2 hard drives, the first has Windows on it (which 
I need to keep for a variety of application and game reasons) and I'm 
looking to put Gentoo on the second drive.  I've googled the heck out of 
how to get the dual install right, but haven't been able to find the 
right tutorial to get me straight.  I've downloaded the .iso's for the 
2005.1 universal install and the package disk.  When I boot the gentoo 
CD, it gets me to 'preparing the disk for installation and then just 
hangs.  I can hit alt-F1 to get to the verbose screen, and it is 
responsive, but I have no clue what so ever how to continue from there.  
I read that for a few other versions of linux the HD had to be formated 
in FAT32, so I repartitioned the drive that way, but still no luck.  I'm 
guessing that its because I'm trying to install do my 2nd hard drive 
that is causing the problem. 

Any help to the linux noob would be great.  Thanks folks

definitely read the handbook twice then install :)
