Hi all,
I used to have mail sent to my internet account for uploading with my
normal mail without having an mta installed. For some time now I have had
the header sent but no body to the mail.
The guide I followed was the wilki tips but this now says that:-
Note: Starting with Portage 2.1.1, it is possible to
specify /usr/sbin/sendmail in the PORTAGE_ELOG_MAILURI. This will make
Portage use /usr/sbin/sendmail to send out the mail. Because of this, the
TIP is now obsolete!
I have change make.conf to reflect this i.e.
PORTAGE_ELOG_MAILURI="recipient@example.net /usr/sbin/sendmail" but now I
don't even get the header sent to me.
Is their a guide with step by step instructions so I can get this working
again?
I have tried various options as listed in make.conf.examples but without
success.
Any suggestions?
Paul

OK, I know you've posted this a couple times with no reply so far. I've
been hoping someone with a bit better info than I would step forward, but
no one has...
I have a local hacked together solution for some of my admin mail,
bypassing the Internet, simply using a script to dump it in a local
maildir folder I have kmail set to check (the script puts it in proper
maildir format). I have it working for cron, and did a bit of work to
get it working for something else (IDR what), but do NOT use it for
portage, as I have its logging setup differently (logging to a local dir
and with the summary at the end, which is what I mainly use).
I just thought it ridiculous that I had to run a full local mail setup
and/or send the mail round trip to my ISP and back (it's admin mail,
better it's not sent via unencrypted Internet mail at all!), just to
arrange for a local application to have something appear in kmail, when
kmail can be set to check a local maildir, so I setup a script that made
it happen!
Anyway, if you are up for a bit of hacking and know bash, working
together and starting from what I already have, we can almost certainly
get it working for portage as well.
Or simply do what I did and setup the logging so portage produces a
summary at the end, and logs messages to a local dir as well, in case
they are needed for reference after the end-summary is gone. I should be
able to help with that as well, if it'll do what you need.

Thanks for the reply Duncan, My isp has had problems sending me mails from
this list, (it now looks as though they have resolved it now) so I
thought that I had missed the replies.
How did you set portage to give a summary, at the moment I have messages
sent to /var/log/portage/elog and logs to /var/log/portage. I have kmail
running all the time and it would be great if kmail could produce the
info messages, if any, after an emerge.
I would like to resolve this, so any help would be great.
