I unmerged nvidia-settings, looks like it is included in the new
drivers. But I still can't update world;
amd64 ~ # emerge -p nvidia-settings
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild N ] media-video/nvidia-settings-1.0.20070302
[blocks B ] media-video/nvidia-settings (is blocking
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-100.14.09)
amd64 ~ # emerge -pv nvidia-drivers
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild R ] x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-100.14.09 0 kB
Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB
amd64 ~ #

I see no problem in this merge, it's ok, isn't it?
anyway, do an emerge -p --tree nvidia-drivers, and see what still
needs nvidia-settings. I had gnome-extra/sensors-applet compiled with
nvidia (and thus requiring nvidia-settings).

Hi, I sync & update, and I had to deinstall it:
emerge --unmerge media-video/nvidia-settings
After that, all Ok

I think the "nvidia-settings" package is included into
the "nvidia-drivers"-package.

That must be what is blocking it;
amd64 ~ # emerge -uND world
Calculating world dependencies... done!
!!! Error: the media-video/nvidia-settings package conflicts with
another package;
!!! the two packages cannot be installed on the same system together.
!!! Please use 'emerge --pretend' to determine blockers.
For more information about Blocked Packages, please refer to the following
section of the Gentoo Linux x86 Handbook (architecture is irrelevant):
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?full=1#blocked
but nvidia-drivers merged OK
amd64 ~ # emerge -p --tree nvidia-drivers
These are the packages that would be merged, in reverse order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild R ] x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-100.14.09

That was the first thing I tried;
amd64 ~ # emerge -p nvidia-settings
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild N ] media-video/nvidia-settings-1.0.20070302
[blocks B ] media-video/nvidia-settings (is blocking
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-100.14.09)

Once I emerge -C sensors-applet that removed the block. Not sure what
that has to do with nvidia.

sensors-applet has a nvidia use flag.

Nvidia-drivers-100.14.09 is marked as ~amd64 (testing). There is no
conflict between the stable packages. Since I want nvidia-settings +
nvidia-drivers with version greater than the current stable
(1.0.8776-r1) I did:
echo x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-1.0.9755-r1 >> \
/etc/portage/package.keywords
This way now I have:
emerge -pv nvidia-{settings,drivers}
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies ..... ..
... ....... done!
[binary R ] media-video/nvidia-settings-1.0.20070302
[binary R ] x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-1.0.9755-r1

so the latest nvidia-drivers come with settings in one package. And the
sensors-applet ebuild is not updated yet.
Unmerge nvidia settings
emerge nvidia drivers
and put nvidia settings into /etc/portage/profile/package.provided

no, it seems the current sensors-applet doesn't support the newest
nvidia drivers. the values aren't detected.
