Greetings.
I tried doing an emerge -e world because some apps are having trouble
with finding libraries (revdep-rebuild didn't help), and when it came
time to emerge zlib, the shared library wouldn't build (although the
actual package would build and install), so now I've got a close to
useless system because nothing can find libz.so*.
I really have no clue what's going on with this. Anybody have any
suggestions? Or should I file a bug? (Seems like I must have something
dumb though.)
Some useful things:
emerge --info = http://fishbucket.homelinux.net/~kyle/gentoo/emerge-info
emerge zlib log = http://fishbucket.homelinux.net/~kyle/gentoo/zliblog
Thanks,
Kyle Liddell

>>> Compiling source in /var/tmp/portage/zlib-1.2.3/work/zlib-1.2.3 ...
./configure: line 80: -fPIC: command not found
looks very odd. having a look at the changelog...

files/zlib-1.2.1-fPIC.patch:
Don't try to execute -fPIC, append that afterward to make NetBSD work
_and_
PIC being used, or it will build only static libraries on PIC arches.
it seems like this bug is already fixed in CVS, at least i can't
reproduce it here.

Yeah, that was very weird. zlib builds fine now, and it does seem that the fPIC patch did get modified sometime over the past few days. (I compiled zlib maybe 3-4 days ago.)
Thanks for taking a look.
