Hi,
I've brought up an AMD64 system over the last week. I'm completely
new to 64-bit and everything that goes with it so I hope I haven't
missed somethign obvious. For the most part things are working very
nicely with only a few little frustrations so far. One has to do with
plugins within Firefox.
To get flash working on this box I've shifted from Firefox to
firefox-bin. This seems to have solved a number of problems. However
one plugin still not working Realplayer video from sights like
Weather.com. For instance, on this page:
http://www.weather.com/multimedia/index.html?clip=715&from=36hr_button_undeclared
I get a box that tells me "Click here to download plugin". When I do
click it tells me I need Realplayer 10.5 but I already have Realplayer
10.5 on the system:
lightning ~ # emerge -pv realplayer
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild R ] media-video/realplayer-10.0.5 -nsplugin 0 kB
Total size of downloads: 0 kB
lightning ~ #
Is this a case of something that just doesn't work? Or is this a case
of something compiled in the 64-bit environment not working within
firefox-bin?
Thanks,
Mark

nsplugin is a use flag to enable the firefox (ns=netscape) plugin, so just
recompile with that use flag set

Apparently one has to run realplay outside of the embedded browser
environment once in order to accept the license. Now everything is
working.

Interesting. I don't remember doing that but I might have. Glad it's
working for more than me.

Where should I add the --no-check-certificate parameter? I.e., to what
process? And why is emerge not using my proxy server, as it does normally?

What about hand-copying the file to /usr/portage/distfiles?
https://helixcommunity.org/download.php/1343/RealPlayer-10.0.5.756-20050513.i586.rpm
That's the URL (I think). Also, emerge only uses your proxy server on
FTP, HTTP, and RSYNC requests (Assuming you exported all three of those
variables.) I don't have a clue what port 443 is all about, but I
assume that those three variables don't affect it. I think it's secure
HTTP, so maybe it's not proxy-dependant? Maybe it requires another
proxy variable?
I think fetching the file yourself as I mentioned above would be the
fastest way to get around your problem, though.
Cheers,
Winston

You could add it to FETCHCOMMAND and RESUMECOMMAND. The default values should
be retrieved from /etc/make.globals.
Port 443 is the https port.

That did it. Thanks Winston. I don't know why I didn't think of it myself
though :-(

No worries. That's a simple work-around. It's not elegant, but doing
it by hand usually fixes problems with distfile-grabbing functions.
I'm happy to help out when I can.
