I've had a devil of a time figuring out how to get a javaplugin working
under the 64-bit version of Firefox. The docs on the Gentoo site aren't
real explicit for 64-bit versions. Can someone point me to one or give
me a heads up on how to make it work.
Because, I mean, I really need my streaming video of Mike and Mike in
the morning. :)

java nsplugin 64bit -> icedtea6 from java-overlay. you still need to
have the original jdk since the gcj cannot build it now. see flameeyes
webblog for info on how icedtea still fails.
as for flash there isn't still any real good firefox plugin. gnash
doesn't play a thing.

A second on the flameeyes' blog recommendation.
As for flash, I've had some luck with the swfdec package (perhaps still
in the sunrise overlay?), but it seemed /very/ touchy on build-order.
Between firefox, swfdec, swfdec-mozilla, and perhaps a couple other
packages, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't, depending on whether
the merge order happened to be correct or not. Unfortunately, revdep-
rebuild didn't help either; it said everything was fine.
So eventually I gave up on swfdec, in particular because my normal
browser is konqueror anyway tho I have iceweasel/firefox merged, and
swfdec didn't seem to work with konqueror at all. Now, I just use kde-
misc/youtube-servicemenu to download the file (as mp4) and play with
kaffeine, and don't worry about flash anywhere else. Occasionally the
service menu gets the URL wrong somehow, but it hasn't been a big deal
for me. Another alternative, for firefox, is the DownloadHelper
extension. It works more broadly than just youtube, but is nagware, and
since I don't use iceweasel/firefox regularly anyway, I prefer the
konqueror-servicemenu solution for most of my youtube watching.
But as I said, swfdec seemed to work way better than gnash for me, but it
was very dependent on the right merge order for various packages, and I
never resolved the magic packages and order necessary to remerge in to
get it to work reliably when it broke. It worked at least on youtube
100%, however, when it worked. But when it didn't, I didn't know what to
do to fix it, except that eventually, it would start working again, when
the order was again correct.

Just as an FYI.
Java 6 Update 12 from Sun will have a 64-bit plugin.
