So stage 1, 1.5 & 2 are in /boot/grub allr= ight. But trying to install the new mbr gives: grub> root (hd0,0) Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83 grub> setup (hd0) Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists... no Checking if "/grub/stage1" exists... no Error 15: File not found Of course, /boot/grub/stage1 is there. So I'm stuck with a half installed grub and dare not reboot. I re-emerged= the last version to no avail.
