I just reproduced your results. After emerging glibc with your overlay I get:
Memory to memory copy rate = 2265.193604 MBytes / sec. Block size = 1048576.
I was getting ~1100 before.
Nothing has broken yet, but if it does, I'll be sure to post. :)
