Hello,

Did you make sure your vm is setup to boot from the CD? If I remeber well it
is not so by default.

Hi,

You should perhaps give me more details.

Just out of my memory, here are the two things I sometime forgot to check and
that gave me the same problem:

a) remeber vmware is a virtual pc. While booting press [F2] to get to the
"Virtual BIOS" and check that booting from CD is selected.

b) if /dev/cdrom does not work, try /dev/hdc or whatever your CD really is.
Oh, and make sure that a box saying something like "legacy emulation" is
checked, otherwise it won't boot from the CD as far as I remember.

I found just the opposite - that all sorts of things broke if I had legacy
emulation switched on, but worked normally with it off.

Gavin, which vmware is this? Vmware-server, perhaps?

Hi,
this is vmware-workstation. When I power in it starts. I get the
vmware progress bar. It says 'examining hardware'. Then there is an
error that I cannot see and it all starts again.

The cd will boot if I try and inst. on my machine as the 1ary os.

That sounds different from vmware-server, which I'm more familiar with. I
don't think I can help here, I'm afraid. Sorry.

I've had intermittent problems reading from the "real" cd drive,
especially during boot of a virtual machine. I usually rip the CD to an
ISO image, then specify the image file using "Use ISO Image" rather than
the physical drive.

What is it that you are trying to boot?

Have you double checked that the VMWare BIOS is set to boot from CD
first? (hit F2 when you see the progress bar to enter the VMWare BIOS
setup).

Hi,
It is Windos xp, so I can use a dell pocket pc. I would also be able to
upgrade my cellular phone to one that doesn't require Gnokii.
Thanks.
