Hi Fabian,

With the ad= vent of WSL, I moved completely out of prefix and now have a small instance= of a native Gentoo inside windows.

If MS c= ontinues improving its compatibility with Linux, I do not foresee any scena= rio where I would be willing to use x64-cygwin/x86-winnt again. The situati= on may be different for those still relying on X, though.

I've left x64-cygwin and x86-winnt untouched in that process.=C2=A0 How= ever,
x64-cygwin in particular requires a large amount of
(non-trivial/disturbing) patches, basically blocking our merging of the
Prefix overlay into gx86.

It seems to me, x64-cygwin and x86-winnt have no sponsor whatsoever at
this point within Gentoo, or our direct user-base.=C2=A0 Some user that
submitted a lot of patches/fixes on our bugzilla in the past pointed out that Cygwin is no longer necessary for him due to effortless bootstraps
on "WSL".

So, the inevitable question: who needs x64-cygwin/x86-winnt, and who
would take care of maintaining it?=C2=A0 If noone steps up (I cannot even r= un
the platform) before Feb 1st 2021, I'll probably continue and drop thes= e
two from Gentoo at some point after that.

Please chime in if you have an opinion, info, interest, etc.

Thanks,
Fabian
