Unfortunately, we do not have software speech at install yet. The reason for this is that we do not have speechd-up, speech-dispatcher or espeak on the live cd. I have a doubletalk pc, so when I installed gentoo, I used that with speakup. However, you should be able to get sshd started. You will have to change the root password without speech. You can do that by typing passwd at the shell prompt then entering the password twice. Then start sshd by typing this at the prompt: /etc/init.d/sshd start Let me know how that works for you.
