I am completely stumped here. It's just simply broken. Fresh 64bit install
localhost ~ # rsync -a /usr/portage/ /root/portage
rsync: [sender] write error: Broken pipe (32)
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at io.c(820) [sender=3.1.2]
It's almost like the rsync socket is broken or something...
